The Family Services Department is committed to promoting access to a flexible array of quality services to children and families with special developmental needs. Services are provided in a manner that respect families, communities and cultural differences while promoting partnership in all aspects of service delivery. Contact the Infant Learning Program (ILP) at (907) 262-6331 to refer a child for a developmental screening. You will be asked for basic information, such as the child's name and date of birth, and the family's address and telephone number, as well as the reason you are concerned. At that time, an appointment for a screening will be scheduled. Screenings can be done in the family home, at the ILP office, daycare, or in the community.

Early Intervention is professionals working in partnership with parents and families of children with special needs, to support their children's growth, development,and learning.

The Infant Learning Program, also known as ILP, is a family-centered program for children ages birth to three years who may have disabilities, delays or challenges in one or more areas of development. The child's family and Early Intervention staff work as partners to evaluate the child's development, create a plan for services, provide specialized instruction, and assist in locating other services if necessary. Research tells us that the first three years of a child's life are critical years for learning. Early care and education have a long-lasting impact on how children develop. Young children, ages birth to 5 years, are growing and changing at a dynamic rate. Sometimes parents of young children are concerned that their child may not be developing the skills he or she should be. Parents can monitor their child's development using the Ages & Stages screening tool provided through the Watch Me Grow Program. By completing the questionnaires, parents can check their child's progress and learn more about what to expect their child to be able to do at each stage of development.

A referral may be made by anyone in contact with the child, who has a concern about the child's development. Parents or other family members, doctors, nurses, childcare workers, social workers, or anyone who has contact with the child may make a referral. Of course, the child's parents will always be contacted for permission before any action is taken. |
